Seven major gaming companies in the US have teamed up to establish the Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA).

This alliance marks a huge step forward in ensuring that gambling remains safe and enjoyable for everyone involved.

The Birth of ROGA

The creation of ROGA brings together industry giants like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, Penn Entertainment, Fanatics Betting & Gaming, Hard Rock Digital, and bet365.

These companies collectively control more than 85% of the legal online betting market in the US.

With a shared commitment to promoting responsible gaming, they’ve pledged over $20 million to support ROGA’s initiatives.

Working Together for a Safer Future

ROGA mainly focuses on education, setting responsible gaming standards, and ensuring fair advertising and marketing practices.

One key initiative is creating a database to share vital information to protect consumers.

Additionally, ROGA plans to introduce a certification program to recognize operators’ responsible gaming efforts, encouraging them to prioritize player welfare.

Jennifer Shatley, an expert in responsible gaming, heads ROGA as its executive director. She’s enthusiastic about using evidence-based practices to empower players with knowledge and ensure a safer gambling environment.

Shatley, whose primary role for ROGA will be to facilitate widespread education on responsible gaming, said, “Many of America’s largest legal mobile gaming operators will be establishing a framework that helps to aid in responsible gaming education and awareness.”

She added, “Together, our members will work alongside researchers, experts, regulators, and stakeholders to promote responsible online gaming and maximize our efforts to support additional responsible gaming education and awareness. By coming together with a clear set of objectives, ROGA and our members will work to enhance consumer protections and help provide easier and more efficient access to responsible gaming tools for consumers to enjoy the entertainment of online gaming.”

ROGAAddressing Challenges

Despite the growing popularity of online gaming, challenges like problem gambling and maintaining integrity in sports continue to exist.

Recent incidents, like the betting scandal involving Shohei Ohtani, highlight the need for vigilant oversight.

With an estimated 2 million US adults facing severe gambling issues, ROGA’s efforts are crucial in minimizing harm and supporting vulnerable individuals.

As ROGA and its member operators move forward, they promote responsible gaming practices and ensure a safer gambling environment.

ROGA aims to maximize its impact and raise awareness about responsible gaming by collaborating with experts, regulators, and stakeholders.

With proactive measures in place, ROGA is paving the way for a more secure and sustainable future for online gaming.
