GiG appoints Ben Clemes to lead presence in the US

Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) has made sure to have a clear focus on North America. GiG has created a hub that will be led by co-founder Ben Clemes. The hub will build on GiG’s presence in the US, with the business having been operational in the country since 2018.ben clemes usa

Initially, GIG powered the Hard Rock brand in New Jersey. At this point, GiG Media alone is licensed and operating in over 19 states. Recent activity in North America included the launch of PlayStar in New Jersey, securing approval to operate in Pennsylvania, and a deal with Crab Sports in Maryland.  To add, Hard Rock and GiG signed a 5-year deal in 2018, which was mutually ended in 2020.

Clemes shared, “The first decision that I made with GiG was the move from Malta to Marbella. We set up a hub to support our growing B2B businesses. I am very inspired to make this next move to the US to establish GiG further into the North American office.” “The timing is perfect, with the full integration of Sportnco into our next generation of platform technology developed specifically for the North American market. In addition to supporting GiG Media’s growth with their strategy across the Atlantic. “It has been 15 years since I set foot in Europe, and I am excited to be moving back to where my gaming career started.”

GiG chief executive Richard Brown added: “We have strong aspirations for North America as part of our global strategy. With the integration of Sportnco and the completion of our next generation of technology within the platform, the timing is perfect to further establish GiG operationally into the continent to capitalize on each and every opportunity. “With Ben’s long history at GiG, product expertise, and local knowledge there is no one better to lead the US team.” GiG expects the new hub to be operational by the second quarter of 2023.

Bill Pascrell, III opinion on California voting

Bill Pascrell III sees no way forward for Proposition 27 on online sports betting in California, which has seen the online gambling industry spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a campaign to support it. It really seems that the latest polling figures show that not Proposition 27 nor Proposition 26 won’t go through.

To break it down for you:

california sports betting Pascrell

Proposition 26 allows in-person sports betting at racetracks and tribal casinos. It requires that racetracks and casinos that offer sports betting make certain payments to the state. Additionally, the proposition also allows other gambling—such as roulette—at tribal casinos.

Proposition 27 allows tribes or gambling companies to offer online sports betting. It requires tribes and online sports betting providers to make payments to the state for specific purposes. This includes supporting state regulatory costs and addressing homelessness.

Bill Pascrell, III was speaking at the SBC Summit Barcelona where he shared his vision of the process. Pascrell asked: “Whose fault is it that we only have six states with online gaming – casino and poker – and Nevada with poker only? Whose fault is it? “It’s not the politicians’ fault. It’s our fault – the industry’s fault. DraftKings and FanDuel and the rest of the industry are spending upwards of half a billion dollars to pass a ballot referendum in California. And it doesn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell of surviving. “It’s not going to pass. I’m sorry, breaking news. It’s polling at 32%. After the half, a billion dollars in political ads have been spent. Do you think that it’s going to change in the next 45 days? I don’t think so.”

Pascrell argued that these changes in the US political landscape offer an opportunity for sports betting and iGaming legislation to become more widespread. However, if there won’t be any major changes happening in California in the next month or so, it appears the contrasting political propositions currently competing in the state are both set to fail.

Arizona’s State Farm Stadium is due to host Super Bowl LVII in February and has recently seen some of the most betting transaction volumes coming from NFL stadiums. GeoComply has already anticipated a “betting bonanza” at the next Super Bowl. As Arizona is the first regulated sports betting state to host the Super Bowl since PASPA was overturned in 2018.

GeoComply CEO Anna Sainsbury said: “We see data from many of these games that show more than 10% of NFL fans in stadiums are engaging with licensed sportsbooks. It is a clear win for states that choose to regulate sports betting. This wealth of data is so important for lawmakers and sports leagues. They can determine sports betting policies in their states and at their stadiums.” During the first two weeks of the NFL season, opening games were played in the regulated sports betting states of Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee.
